Nudo — a pet cared for by two people, each from their own phone.
Nudo has no email-and-password accounts, shows no ads, and uses no analytics or advertising identifiers. To work, it syncs between the two phones of the same nudo an anonymous identifier, the messages, the question of the day, and the pet's state, through Firebase (a Google service).
Who processes your data
Nudo is an independent app developed by Juan Cornejo, in Mexico. There is no company behind it and no third-party team with access to the data: the services that process the information are the ones described below, and the contact for any question or request is juanmanuelchio12@gmail.com.
What data Nudo receives
Nudo uses Firebase for three specific things: identifying your phone without asking you to create an account, syncing what's shared between the two phones of a nudo, and notifying you when the other person writes.
Anonymous identity
When you first open the app, Firebase Authentication assigns you a random identifier (an anonymous sign-in). We don't ask for or store your email, your phone number, or your real name as part of that identity: the identifier means nothing outside Nudo and isn't tied to your Apple ID or to any other account of yours.
What's synced between the two phones
When you pair your phone with someone else's, Firestore (Firebase's database) stores, for each side of the nudo:
- The short message you write, so the other person can read it.
- Your answer to the question of the day, so it can be compared with the other person's after you answer.
- The name you gave the pet, its species, stage, mood and outfit, so it looks the same on both widgets.
- How much fullness and affection the pet has, and its care streak, so one person's care counts for both.
- Your phone's notification token, so we can notify you when you're written to.
The pairing code generated to invite someone is also stored temporarily in Firestore, and expires after twelve hours if nobody uses it.
What never travels to any server: the name you gave the person you share the nudo with (only you see it, on your phone) and the drawings from the draw-and-guess game. The strokes you draw are stored only in the storage your own phone shares between the app and its widgets — they aren't uploaded or sent to the other device over the internet.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, Firebase Cloud Messaging uses your device's token only to deliver a notification when the other person writes to you. If you turn notifications off in Settings, that token is deleted from both sides of the nudo.
What Nudo does not collect
- It doesn't access your location.
- It doesn't access your contacts.
- It doesn't access your photos, your camera or your microphone.
- It doesn't collect health or fitness data.
- It doesn't use advertising identifiers or ad networks.
- It doesn't use third-party analytics tools or track your activity across other companies' apps and websites.
- It doesn't sell or share your data with anyone outside the infrastructure provider already mentioned (Firebase, by Google), which only processes it to make the app work.
How long data is kept
What's synced is kept for as long as the nudo exists, meaning as long as neither person deletes it. Deleting a nudo from the app (Nudo Settings → Delete) removes it from your phone immediately; to have what's stored on the server fully deleted, write to us following the instructions below.
How to request deletion of your data
Write to juanmanuelchio12@gmail.com asking for your information to be deleted. Let us know, if you remember, the approximate date you paired the nudo and the name you gave the pet, so we can locate the right record among ones that carry neither a name nor an email address. We'll handle the request by deleting the corresponding nudo from Firestore within a reasonable time.
Children
Nudo is rated for everyone (4+) because it doesn't expose whoever uses it to third-party content, to advertising, or to the possibility of contacting strangers: you can only write to the person you already shared the pairing code with, in person or through another channel. Even so, we recommend that a minor use the app with the knowledge of a parent or guardian, especially when sharing that code. We don't deliberately request data from minors beyond the same anonymous data any user receives; if we have reason to believe we received a minor's data without the appropriate consent, we will delete it once notified at the contact email.
Security
Data travels encrypted between your phone and Firebase's servers using the standard connection encryption (TLS/HTTPS) any iOS app uses when connecting to the internet. Nudo doesn't apply any additional encryption of its own over the content of the messages.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date below will be updated before that change reaches the store. Continuing to use Nudo after a change means you accept it.
